WordPress Hosting Migration & Technical Audit
This service provides a controlled migration of your existing WordPress e-commerce website to a new managed hosting environment, followed by a comprehensive technical audit.
The objective is to move the existing website safely before making changes, verify that the store operates correctly in its new environment, and then evaluate the website on a separate staging system before recommending any changes.
Phase 1: Hosting Migration
The existing production website will be migrated to the new hosting environment substantially as it currently operates.
The migration includes:
- WordPress website files and database
- WooCommerce products and product data
- Customer accounts and information
- Existing order history and related store data
- Themes, plugins, and existing site functionality
- Product variations, options, and customization functionality
- Required WordPress and hosting configuration
- SSL and domain configuration associated with the migration
- Coordination of the final production cutover
The final transfer will be scheduled to minimize disruption and prevent new e-commerce transactions from being lost during the migration.
The previous hosting environment will be retained temporarily as a fallback until the migrated website has been validated.
Phase 2: Production Validation
After migration, the new production environment will be tested to verify that critical website and e-commerce functions continue to operate properly.
Validation includes appropriate testing of:
- Public website and navigation
- Product pages
- Product variations and customization options
- Shopping cart
- Checkout process
- Payment processing
- Shipping functionality
- Customer accounts
- Transactional email
- WordPress administration
- SSL and domain configuration
- Backups and essential hosting services
The purpose of this phase is to establish a stable production environment before beginning the technical audit.
Phase 3: Staging Environment
After the migrated production site has been verified, a separate staging copy will be created.
The staging environment provides a safe location to investigate the existing website and test potential recommendations without experimenting on the live store or interfering with customers, orders, or other production activity.
Phase 4: Technical Audit
The technical audit will evaluate the existing WordPress and WooCommerce environment, including:
- WordPress core configuration
- Theme and child-theme configuration
- Active and inactive plugins
- Obsolete, abandoned, redundant, or unnecessary software
- Plugin dependencies, compatibility, licensing, and continued suitability
- Opportunities to consolidate or replace older plugins with more appropriate alternatives
- WooCommerce configuration and supporting extensions
- Product catalog structure and organization
- Product attributes, variations, options, and customizations
- Database size, structure, and accumulated data
- Scheduled and background processes
- Website performance and caching
- Security configuration
- Backup and recovery capabilities
- Email configuration and delivery
- Hosting and server requirements
- Other technical issues discovered during the review
Product Variations & Customization Review
The audit will specifically evaluate how product choices are currently configured.
Product variations generally represent distinct versions of a product, such as size, color, style, or another characteristic that may affect SKU, inventory, price, or availability.
Product customizations represent customer selections or information associated with an order, such as embroidery, personalized text, optional features, or other choices that do not necessarily represent separate inventory items.
The audit will determine whether the existing catalog uses these appropriately and identify opportunities to simplify or improve the product configuration.
This includes reviewing the existing WooCommerce Product Add-Ons implementation and other software responsible for product customization. Where appropriate, the audit may recommend retaining, reconfiguring, consolidating, or replacing existing plugins with alternatives that provide better reliability, compatibility, maintainability, performance, or usability.
Findings & Recommendations
At the conclusion of the audit, findings and recommendations will be presented for review.
Recommendations may include:
- Retaining existing components that continue to serve the business well
- Reconfiguring existing functionality
- Removing obsolete or unnecessary software
- Replacing older plugins with more appropriate alternatives
- Restructuring product variations or customization options
- Database cleanup or optimization
- Performance improvements
- Security or reliability improvements
- Simplifying the overall WordPress and WooCommerce environment
The technical audit identifies and recommends changes. Implementation of audit recommendations is not included in this service.
No remediation or modernization work identified by the audit will be performed without client approval.
If additional work is recommended, the proposed scope and cost will be provided for review before work begins. Any third-party software, plugin, license, or service costs associated with a recommendation will also be identified when applicable.
Client Responsibilities
The client will establish and maintain the recommended hosting account directly with the hosting provider and is responsible for recurring hosting charges.
The client will provide or authorize the administrative access necessary to perform the migration, validation, and technical audit.
Project Fee
$1,500 one-time
The project fee covers the hosting migration, production validation, staging setup, technical audit, and presentation of findings and recommendations.
Hosting fees, third-party software or licensing costs, and implementation of remediation or modernization recommendations are not included.
